After purchasing a charming ranch-style home in the heart of suburban Syracuse, Jay reached out to us in early August for a complete bathroom remodel. The existing layout left much to be desired, feeling small and cramped due to poor design choices. As you entered, a closet from the adjacent room intruded on the right side, while a 60″x30″ tub/shower squeezed into the space next to it, accompanied by a dated 72″ vanity on the left. This setup left just 18 inches of walking space between the shower and vanity, with an old, leaky window awkwardly positioned in the center of the back wall.

Jay came prepared with a vision. His first request was to remove the closet, allowing us to reframe and drywall the area to create a more open layout. This adjustment would not only enhance the space but also allow us to relocate the toilet to this newly opened section. Instead of the cramped 60″x30″ shower, Jay opted for an upgraded 72″x36″ shower pan. Deciding on “Moonstone” in cultured stone, the window would also be replaced and trimmed in matching stone. For the vanity, Jay selected a 48″ hardwood piece topped with marble and featuring a porcelain sink. To complete the look, a matching digital mirror with integrated lighting, a defroster, and a thermostat would be installed on the right wall. Check out the original layout photos below to see the transformation:

For those who have tackled similar projects, you know this was no small undertaking. We needed to demo the entire room down to the studs, and a new subfloor would be laid over the existing joists. The main waste line would be replaced with PVC, and all new waste and supply lines had to be run. Since we were doing a complete gut, we also needed to install new electrical lines with dedicated circuits protected by GFCI.

After discussing the project scope, Jay agreed to move forward with the exact estimate we provided and made a deposit in cash. We got him scheduled right away.

The remodel took nearly ten days to complete, with carefully sequenced workdays: demolition on Monday and Tuesday, plumbing on Wednesday and Thursday, electrical work on Friday and Saturday, followed by drywall on Monday and Tuesday. Thankfully, we encountered no major complications along the way. Jay is already planning to hire Syracuse Bath Pros for a second bathroom installation in his basement later this year and we will be happy to help him complete his next project.
