Karen and Jim called Syracuse Bath Pros after reading our reviews on Google. And we’re glad they did—word of mouth is free, and we take our reputation seriously. The family had recently relocated from Oregon and bought a home sight-unseen in Baldwinsville, NY. They did their due diligence with a home inspection and thought they had found the perfect property, only to be greeted by a musty, damp smell that made the home uninhabitable. With a history of immune system sensitivities and mold-related health issues, they weren’t willing to risk it. They quickly resold the home and purchased a more desirable property on the outskirts of Phoenix, NY.
Their new home had great bones—new siding, windows, and a roof—but with four college-aged children living at home, it was also a little cramped. Renovations had become a room-by-room affair. Karen and her daughter Jo, both experienced interior designers, were creating their dream space one step at a time. Up next? The guest bathroom.
Even though the existing fiberglass shower unit still functioned, it was showing its age. As for the rest of the bathroom, there were cracks in the drywall, a leaky toilet, and a worn vanity. Karen and Jim wanted something more durable and stylish. After all, with four kids sharing this space, quality and function mattered. They also didn’t want to settle for builder-grade finishes.
After selecting a cultured stone color, Karen and Jim signed with us and secured a calendar date approximately three months out. Our schedule was particularly full after the 2025 CNY Home & Garden Show and the usual spring rush, but the only time constraint was Karen’s upcoming hip surgery, which hadn’t been scheduled yet.
Lead installer Vincent Aponte and assistant John arrived early Monday morning, almost three months to the day. Vin had just wrapped up a challenging install the week before—complete with miscommunications, a defective shower pan, and a few internal hiccups. (You can read about that job in Jamesville, NY.) Suffice it to say, he worked through the weekend and was feeling a little ragged coming into the new week. Installers are people too and need rest. Thankfully, this job went as smoothly as they come. No hidden water damage, no plumbing surprises, no structural concerns.
This full bathroom remodel featured an Onyx Collection walk-in shower in “Vacation,” a soothing seafoam-like color. We installed a 300lb flip-up seat for accessibility, an upgraded dual shower head/wand system, and a rain-glass textured shower door for privacy—especially useful with so many family members sharing the space. We also replaced the floor, installed a new toilet, and floated all of the walls to make them ready for paint.
The only hiccup? A damaged homeowner-supplied vanity from a big box store. Unfortunately, this is a common issue with online orders from places like Wayfair. While we can install homeowner-supplied products, we always recommend ordering far in advance to allow time for potential replacements. In this case, we refunded the cost of installation.
There was also a minor service call post-installation. We returned to add a final bead of silicone along the shower wall and to adjust the door fit due to out-of-plumb framing—both resolved before collecting final payment.
Jim and Karen were thrilled. Hiring a reputable company might not always be the cheapest option, and it doesn’t guarantee a project without unforeseen issues. But what we do guarantee is that we’ll always stand by our work.
