Shirley called us shortly after the New Year, shocked by the quotes she’d been getting for a basic tub-to-shower conversion. Her space wasn’t standard—roughly 48″x42″—and she was looking for the most affordable, warrantied option available. Every other company that had come out quoted her over $12,000. Honestly, for an acrylic system, that’s not unheard of. But we knew we could beat it—and still deliver something better.

We don’t typically recommend acrylic, because for not much more, we can install something significantly higher quality—like cultured stone. That’s really our niche: offering far superior materials at prices that are still competitive. Most of our estimates fall squarely in the middle of the pack, while our competitors often quote cheap acrylic systems at similar—or even higher—price points.
Anyway, understanding the budget concerns, Tom Wolff, owner of Bath Pros and occasional moonlighting project manager, spoke to Shirley over the phone, walking her through the general scope of work and giving her a rough ballpark. Later that week, he drove out to take a look in person. The space was straightforward. There was some rotted drywall that would need replacing, but no major red flags. After discussing options, Tom provided a written quote and asked that she make a decision within 24 hours to take advantage of our TimeSaver Discount. Almost to the minute, Shirley called back the next day and told us to put her on the schedule. We were happy to oblige.

We tried to move her up, but Shirley had a scheduling conflict during our earlier availability. So about ten weeks later, Ricky and Stacey arrived to begin the install. The existing tub base was massive—easily pushing 400 pounds—and represented the bulk of the demo work. We also encountered a small plumbing surprise: the supply lines had been installed above grade under the tub, instead of properly recessed between the studs. Ricky made quick work of rerouting them and had the area ready for install in about a day and a half.
From there, everything went smoothly. We had already set clear expectations with Shirley about what the finished product would look like, what was included, and what wasn’t. She was on board with everything. When we packed up, there was nothing left for her to do but enjoy the new shower.
The entire job took three days instead of the typical one or two—mainly due to the unexpected plumbing issue and the sheer weight of the old tub. That’s exactly why we always overestimate timeframes on our agreements. You just never know what’s behind the walls or under the floorboards until demo starts.

This wasn’t the kind of install we’d showcase in our gallery—it was a functional job, not a luxury makeover—but it solved a real problem for Shirley. Best of all, we did it at a price far more reasonable than anyone else who quoted her. She no longer has to worry about stepping over a cumbersome tub, and that peace of mind is what really matters.
