When John and Debbie contacted Bath Pros, they knew exactly what they wanted to change.

Their existing fiberglass tub and surround had served its purpose for years, but getting in and out of the tub was becoming more difficult, and the space no longer reflected the quality they wanted in their home. Their goal was straightforward: remove the tub, improve accessibility, eliminate maintenance concerns, and install a shower system built to last.

After an initial phone consultation, we scheduled a site inspection at their North Syracuse home.

Planning the Project

Every remodeling project begins with a thorough evaluation of the existing space.

During the site inspection, we measured the bathroom, inspected the framing and plumbing, photographed the project area, and discussed the homeowners’ goals in detail. This allows us to identify potential concerns before construction begins and develop an accurate proposal based on the actual conditions of the home.

John and Debbie wanted a shower that prioritized durability, accessibility, and ease of maintenance. They specifically wanted to avoid acrylic products and preferred a solid-surface system that would provide long-term performance.

After reviewing available options, they selected an Onyx Collection cultured stone shower system featuring a low-threshold shower pan, full-height wall panels, and multiple safety bars to improve comfort and accessibility.

Once the design was finalized, materials were ordered and the project was scheduled for installation.

Demolition and Installation

Because the existing wet space consisted of a fiberglass tub and surround, demolition was relatively straightforward.

The existing tub and wall system were removed, allowing our installation team to inspect the underlying structure and prepare the area for reconstruction. After confirming the framing was sound, the new shower pan was installed and leveled to provide a solid foundation for the remainder of the project.

With the pan in place, moisture-resistant wallboard was installed and prepared for the cultured stone wall system. The Onyx Collection wall panels were then fitted floor-to-ceiling, creating a seamless and easy-to-clean shower enclosure.

The selected color combination paired a Feather shower pan with Pepper wall panels, creating a clean, modern appearance while maintaining the durability Onyx systems are known for.

The project was completed in approximately four working days.

A Minor Delay with the Glass

Matte black shower fixtures, integrated corner storage, and grout-free Onyx Collection wall panels combine beauty with everyday functionality.

The only unexpected issue occurred after installation when the original glass door arrived damaged during shipping. While frustrating, this occasionally happens with custom glass products and is outside the control of both the manufacturer and installer.

To minimize inconvenience, we expedited a replacement and returned promptly once the new door arrived. As a thank-you for the homeowners’ patience, we upgraded the glass package to a thicker premium door at no additional cost.

The replacement was installed successfully, and the homeowners were extremely pleased with the final result.

Finished Features

This North Syracuse shower remodel included:

  • Matte black trim package

  • Improved accessibility and ease of entry
