This Manlius NY bathroom remodel included the removal of a leaking corner shower, replacement of damaged subflooring caused by long-term moisture exposure, installation of a new glass-enclosed shower system, updated luxury vinyl tile flooring, a custom vanity top, and several plumbing and electrical upgrades throughout the space.
Like many of the bathroom remodels we complete throughout Manlius, Syracuse, and Central New York, this project began with homeowners researching contractors online and reviewing past project photos before reaching out.
Nick and Kim first discovered Bath Pros through photos of previous installations shared on Facebook. They had recently completed a major kitchen and half-bath renovation with a well-known high-end remodeling company in the area — a project that ultimately exceeded $100,000. Large renovation budgets like that aren’t uncommon once labor, materials, and design work are factored in, something we discuss in more detail in our guide explaining how much a bathroom remodel actually costs.
Premium craftsmanship delivered from a small, skilled team is exactly where Bath Pros tends to fit best. The photos below document the full bathroom remodel completed in Manlius, including the corner shower replacement, new vanity, and updated flooring.

A Master Bathroom Showing Its Age
When our owner Tom Wolff arrived for the site inspection, Nick was outside snow-blowing the driveway — a small detail, but one that immediately told us the home was well cared for.
The bathroom itself wasn’t in terrible condition. The finishes were simply dated.
The real issue was the corner shower.
Corner showers are extremely common in homes built in the late 1990s and early 2000s, particularly in master bathrooms where designers tried to balance space efficiency with a more open layout. Standard footprints for these installations typically range between 36″ × 36″ and 42″ × 42″.
In theory they work well.
In practice, they can sometimes create problems over time.
Nick’s shower had begun leaking intermittently, and the pivot door had slowly drifted out of alignment. At one point he had resorted to using a bungee cord just to keep the door closed properly.
Situations like this are more common than many homeowners realize. Once water begins escaping behind tile or into a shower curb, damage can occur slowly and remain hidden for years. In more severe cases we’ve even documented situations where structural floor joist problems were discovered after the bathroom was opened during demolition, requiring additional framing repairs before the new shower system could be installed.
Demolition Reveals the Real Problem
Once demolition began, our installer Vincent Aponte quickly discovered that the leaking shower had caused more damage than originally expected.
The subfloor around the curb and drain area had softened significantly from years of minor water intrusion. While it hadn’t progressed to full structural rot, sections of the plywood needed to be removed and replaced before the new shower base could be installed.
Situations like this are one of the reasons experienced contractors approach demolition carefully.
Bathrooms are wet environments, and even small leaks can quietly cause damage over long periods of time.
While opening the walls, we also encountered something unexpected — a massive carpenter ant colony living inside the framing cavity behind the old shower.
It was easily the largest infestation we’ve encountered on a remodeling project.
Thousands of ants.
Work paused for roughly a day while Nick coordinated with a pest control company to eliminate the colony. Fortunately, once the infestation was treated and the damaged wood was removed, the structure itself remained solid and no additional framing repairs were required.

Updating the Bathroom Layout
With the shower removed and the subfloor repaired, the rest of the project began to move quickly.
The scope of work ultimately included:
• removing the original tile flooring
• installing luxury vinyl tile flooring throughout the bathroom
• replacing the aging toilet with a 17″ “comfort” height American Standard model
• installing a new vanity with a custom top designed by Kim
• rebuilding the shower using a modern glass enclosure
For the new shower, the homeowners ultimately selected a solid cultured stone shower system from The Onyx Collection, a material we frequently recommend because of its durability, grout-free maintenance, and solid construction.
The new shower immediately made the room feel more open.
Where the original corner shower had visually boxed in the space, the glass enclosure allowed the entire bathroom to feel larger and brighter while still maintaining a durable waterproof system designed for everyday use.

Small Details Matter
Like most remodeling projects, there were a few small punch-list items once the installation was complete.
One of them involved a towel bar that began to loosen shortly after installation. The hardware supplied with the fixture included lightweight plastic drywall anchors, which unfortunately are common with many off-the-shelf accessories.
During a quick service visit, we replaced the anchors with metal expansion anchors, creating a far more secure mounting point.
Sometimes the smallest details make the biggest difference in long-term durability.

The Finished Bathroom
Once completed, the updated bathroom felt dramatically different.
The new flooring, vanity, and glass shower enclosure transformed the room from a dated master bath into a space that felt bright, clean, and modern.
And like every project featured on the Bath Pros website, the photos shown here are real installations — not stock images.
Every image was taken by a project manager or installer during the actual job.

The finished space feels dramatically different from the original bathroom. The new flooring, vanity, and glass shower enclosure transformed the room into a brighter and far more functional master bath.
