John requested an estimate from us in mid-April over the phone. While we can never give an exact number without getting eyes on the project, we gave him a ballpark range, which he enthusiastically accepted, and set up an appointment for two days later. At the time, we didn’t know that John received a tremendously high quote from another company in cheap acrylic, touting that their shower pan was “insulated” with foam. Why would a shower pan need to be insulated when it’s not designed to hold water to begin with? The salesman was from a company with a name eerily similar to our own (Bath Planet), hostile to the homeowner, called the homeowner “unprofessional”, and pressured him to sign by saying, and we quote, “when I leave, the deal leaves”. He left, and our project manager arrived the next morning at 9am. When John saw our cultured stone product, he signed on the spot, and not for one but for two full bathroom remodels. With a 40% deposit, we got him on the calendar. The photos below are from the first of two jobs.

The downstairs bath had a claw foot tub in disrepair that hadn’t worked in years. The floor and vanity had seen better days. Peeling wallpaper covered the walls. The homeowner wanted it all gone. Demolition began with the claw foot tub, followed by the vanity & sconces, flooring, and toilet. A thick wall was constructed on the right side out of 2×6’s to support a flip up seat. New plumbing and a shower valve was routed into the left wall. While the drain just about lined up, we replaced the p-trap anyway. Above it, our installer placed a monster 36″x60″ stone composite shower pan, followed by mold resistant purple board over the studs. Finally, three 1/4″ cultured stone walls in “Butterscotch Marble” were installed. The wet space was finished up with matching corner trim, two corner shelves, a 400lb teak flip up seat, two safety bars, a Spectra Duo dual shower head/wand, and a curved shower curtain & rod.

Outside the wet space, all wall paper was removed and the rough surface was skim coated for a smooth finish. LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank) flooring was laid down in “Honey Hickory”. A new homeowner provided vanity was plumbed and installed, as well as new vanity lighting. Toilet was replaced. Homeowner opted to keep the medicine cabinet and paint himself.

There were no major issues on this job and our team was completed and on to the upstairs bath within approximately 4 days.
