Fayetteville, NY – Tub to Shower Conversion in Cultured Stone Slab “Carrara”, Imitation Subway Tile, Full Bath Remodel

This bathroom remodel was the last of three for a homeowner in Fayetteville. The existing tub was leaking from the cast iron p-trap into the half bath below it (Now a full bath — see HERE for photos of how we converted a closet into a walk-in shower). The sub floor was rotted in a few spaces. Homeowner requested for us to convert the tub to a walk-in shower and install new vent fan, flooring, vanity, toilet, molding & trim.

Our installer started by demoing the wet space. Fortunately for them, the cheap fiberglass enclosure came out relatively easy and they even got the old tin tub out in one piece. From there, our plumber repaired and relocated the leaking cast iron p-trap to accommodate the new 30″x60″ stone composite shower pan. All supply lines feeding the shower head were changed to pex and a rough in valve was installed. Mold resistant purple board was applied over the studs and over that we installed 1/4″ cultured stone slab, imitation subway title in “Carrara”. Wet space was finished with matching stone corner molding, four stone corner shelves, two safety bars, and American Standard fixtures in brushed nickel. Homeowner requested upgraded Spectra Duo shower head. Installation completed with a 3/8″ thick glass fixed barn door. All trim was matching in brushed nickel.

Next up: Vanity, medicine cabinet, and toilet were all demoed. New LVP flooring (Luxury Vinyl Plank — customer supplied, unknown brand) was laid down over existing linoleum and a new vanity was plumbed/installed. It did not line up with existing plumbing! As a result, the waste line had to be run through the studs and moved over about 1 foot. New shut offs and supply lines were installed. Existing toilet was reinstalled (homeowner requested and we don’t recommend this for a number of reasons), baseboard, and wainscoting were completed. Finally, our drywaller visited last week and ensured all the walls were paint ready. Homeowner opted to paint themselves. This job took a good amount of time with all of our revolving schedules, but the homeowner was very accommodating. We thanked her by installing the wainscoting and hanging a couple doors for free. In fact, they called for a fourth bathroom yesterday.
