Building Bath Pros: Thoughts from the Owner

If you’ve spent any time on our website, you’ve probably noticed that we cover just about everything related to bathroom remodeling. We have articles explaining costs, comparing products, walking through real projects, discussing common mistakes, and answering questions that homeowners ask us every day. I enjoy writing those articles because I genuinely believe an educated homeowner makes better decisions, regardless of whether they ultimately hire Bath Pros or someone else.

This article is different. It’s not about remodeling techniques or products. It’s simply my perspective on how Bath Pros became the company it is today.

I’ve admired skilled tradesmen for as long as I can remember. Even as a kid, I was fascinated by people who could build something with their hands and took pride in doing it the right way. There was an honesty to that kind of work that always resonated with me.

Some of my earliest memories are of my grandfather. He wasn’t interested in shortcuts. If there was a right way to do something, that was the way he did it, even if it took longer. At the time, I probably didn’t appreciate those moments as much as I should have. Looking back, I realize they shaped the way I think about craftsmanship, integrity, and responsibility more than I ever knew.

Looking back over the years, I don’t think Bath Pros became successful because we were better than everyone else. If anything, we made plenty of mistakes, learned from them, and promised ourselves not to make the same mistake twice.

Over time, those lessons evolved into what I call intentional remodeling. Every product we install, every process we’ve adopted, every line in our contracts, and every recommendation we make is there for a reason. We don’t add things because they’re trendy, and we don’t keep doing something simply because “that’s how it’s always been done.” We slow down, think through the details, question our own decisions, and constantly ask ourselves whether there’s a better way to serve the homeowner. Looking back, becoming more intentional—one small decision at a time—is probably the biggest reason Bath Pros looks so different from when we started. Our goal isn’t to be the biggest bathroom remodeling company. It’s to become a little better than we were yesterday.

Before Bath Pros existed, I spent years working for larger regional and national remodeling companies. They taught me a tremendous amount about marketing, sales, operations, and what it takes to keep a business running. Like most people starting a company, I naturally borrowed many of those ideas because they seemed like the blueprint for success.

As the years went on, though, I started questioning whether every one of those ideas actually served the homeowner. Some did. Some didn’t. Building Bath Pros meant learning the difference. Eventually, I started asking myself whether those priorities aligned with the kind of company I wanted to build.

At some point in our growth, it clicked. I realized I had been asking the wrong question. Instead of asking how to build a bigger remodeling company, I started asking what kind of company I’d trust to remodel my own home. The answer to that question changed everything.

The path to becoming the most respected bathroom remodeling company in the region has been remarkably straightforward, but it took years for me to realize it. There are no shortcuts. You simply have to wake up every morning and intentionally try to become a little better than you were the day before.

  • Lead by example every single day. If I expect professionalism, craftsmanship, honesty, and accountability from our team, those expectations have to start with me.
  • Be passionate about what you do. Nobody wants to work with a contractor who mentally checked out years ago. I still enjoy talking about projects, learning about new products, solving problems, and figuring out how we can improve. I hope that never changes.
  • Become an expert at your craft. Take every opportunity to learn something new. Every project teaches a lesson if you’re paying attention, and that experience compounds over time.
  • Offer a high-quality product, and stand behind it. Don’t take shortcuts or steer homeowners toward cheaper materials simply because they’re more profitable. If I wouldn’t install it in my own home or recommend it to a member of my own family, it doesn’t belong in our catalog.
  • Treat every homeowner the way you’d hope to be treated. Put yourself in their shoes. Remodeling is a major investment, and homeowners are trusting us with their home. That responsibility should never be taken lightly.

None of these ideas are revolutionary. When you really think about it, the formula for building a good company is actually pretty simple:

Be a good company.

That’s it. Treat people fairly. Offer a quality service. Stand behind your work. Keep learning. Admit when you’re wrong. Wake up every morning and choose to improve.

Bath Pros is still evolving, and I hope it continues. I’m sure there are things we’re doing today that we’ll improve five years from now, just like there are processes, products, and techniques we use today that didn’t exist when we first opened our doors.

Intentional remodeling is a commitment to never stop learning, never stop questioning ourselves, and never stop finding better ways to care for the homes and the people who trust us with them.

At the end of the day, homeowners aren’t choosing Bath Pros because we have the fanciest showroom or the biggest advertising budget. They’re choosing us because they’re looking for someone they can trust with one of the most personal spaces in their home and one of the largest investments they’ll make inside it. That’s a responsibility I’ve never taken lightly, and I hope it shows.

If you’ve ever wondered why Bath Pros does things the way we do, I hope this article answered that question. Every decision we make is our attempt to better serve the homeowner. Some of those decisions came from success. Many came from failure. But every one of them helped shape the company Bath Pros has become—and the company we’re still working to build.
