Joan had already received a few estimates before reaching out to Syracuse Bath Pros. She owned an old colonial home, and while her bathroom was beautiful, she was tired of dealing with the mold and maintenance issues that came with grouted tile. Additionally, she no longer used her bathtub and wanted a more accessible shower space. Tom Wolff met with Joan in late October, and after considering her options for a few days, she contacted us with her deposit, ready to have the work completed before Christmas. While we weren’t sure we could meet that timeline, we promised to get the job done before the new year.

Full disclosure: The job was a challenge, but it ended on a high note, with Joan giving our installation techs, Ricky and Stacey, a warm hug as they left. That said, this job turned out to be one of the most difficult projects Syracuse Bath Pros has taken on in the past year. Being an old colonial home, the staircase was narrow and winding. Joan warned us that getting a mattress onto the second story was nearly impossible, so we knew the space would be tight. If you’ve read some of our other write-ups, you know how important pencil trim can be in older homes with narrow walkways.

Sometimes the panels are too large to fit through the space and need to be cut above the wet area. Although we took Joan’s warning seriously, our installation team accidentally broke the stone slab panel while attempting to carry it up the stairs. This happened on a Friday evening, and unfortunately, we didn’t have a replacement slab in stock. We had to wait for the manufacturer to open on Monday morning, and then had to cut the panel into three pieces to make it fit.
What was originally a three-day job turned into a six-day project—this was Joan’s only shower, so we made sure to work as quickly as we could without sacrificing quality. Joan, we truly appreciate your patience throughout this process. We always do our best to speed up work, especially when we’re working on the homeowner’s only bathroom.

In the end, the results speak for themselves. We are not a “one-day bath” company—good things take time. Joan was absolutely thrilled with her new shower. We finished just before she snowbirded to Florida, so she’ll have a beautiful shower to return to. This particular shower features Samuel Mueller’s “Carrara” with a matching cultured stone pan. We also included two separate pencil trim accents (as required), a seamless matching stone niche, a safety bar, and a double sliding glass door. All fixtures were installed in matte black. We’re extremely proud of this one.
